Programme originality:
• It is the first time such a practical, large-scale, multi-institutional action will be taken to shape the country’s image. • It is the first time a cultural programme will implement economic goals. • It is the first volunteer programme of such large scale to be implemented in Lithuania, bringing together both residents and emigrants to work in unison for the benefit of the country.
|
| It is the first programme of such scale in Europe to address the relevance of cultural issues on the European Union’s eastern border. It is the first time in Lithuania that such a large-scale programme will encompass all forms of cultural expression and all social groups. |
Programme long-term impact: - The European Capital of Culture heritage: new, renovated and disability–friendly buildings with cultural infrastructure.
- An extended and well-developed tourist infrastructure.
- A tidy and landscaped Vilnius.
- The beginnings of a realistic cultural policy.
- New cultural traditions will emerge.
- Awareness of the country and its reputation in Europe will significantly improve.
